The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

So my sister has been trying so hard to get me to watch this movie and we finally did the other night.
So the story is about a girl named Christine. Christine's father died and she now works in an opera house. When the main character finally quits Madame Giry (the dance director and main awesome character) suggests Christine, and Christine gets the part. Later we find out that the "angel" that was coaching Christine's singing is actually the Phantom who "haunts" the opera house. The Phantom has an obsession with Christine. Earlier in the movie we're introduced to a man named Raoul. Christine had known Raoul at a young age, and when Christine was singing on stage Raoul recognizes her and they rekindle their love. In the end Christine chooses the Phantom so that he will not kill Raoul, but the Phantom, loving Christine lets them both go.
This movie was quite fantastic. I'm not a big fan of musicals anyway, and this one was a few lines too much to be an opera. The music was lovely, and the mains were fantastic picks. I love the transition from flash forwards to the past. I have to say that in the beginning, and in a few other parts of the movie, the music sounded a bit like a Michael Jackson song.
In case you are wondering as I did, yes! The movie is based on a French novel by Gaston Leroux.
